Description of hemorrhoids:

Techniques and conditions of hemorrhoids surgery:

Laser surgery is not often used in hemorrhoids surgery. Other techniques are more popular. The fact is when patient and people are sedated and free from pain the hemorrhoids can be removed surgically. The one way is local or spinal anesthesia, and the other is general anesthesia, when the patient is asleep and free from pain. When the swollen tissue, called hemorrhoid, is removed, then gauze packing is put to stop bleeding.

If the hemorrhoid is small, it could be banded with small rubber band, placed around the base of the hemorrhoid. Then the hemorrhoid tissue dies and falls off from the absence of fresh blood. The other way in such situations is to inject the hemorrhoid with sclerosing (sclera or hardening) agent. The effect is the same. In these cases the procedures are outpatient or office, they can be done with minimal or no anesthesia.

Indications of hemoroids surgery:

When non-surgical treatment, such as fiber-rich diet, laxatives, stool-softener, suppositories, medications, warm baths, do not heal the hemorrhoid, then comes the necessity of removal. Such cases appear when:

(1) Thrombosis of the hemorrhoids- when blood clots constantly form in external hemorrhoids

(2) Ligation does not help in cases of internal hemorrhoids;

(3) The swollen tissue of the hemorrhoid has not been cut in

size with medical treatment

(4) uncontrollable bleeding

5)Persistent itching

6) Pain

7)Infection

Convalescence post surgery - recovery:

After the surgery the anus tightens and relaxes, which may lead to considerable pain. In this situation pain-relieving medications may be used. Stool softeners are useful when avoiding straining. Also when bowel movement or urination, straining must be reduced. To take a warm bath may help. In two weeks period can be seen full recovery from an hemorrhoids surgery.
